Yesterday we went for a scenic drive around the Bras D’Or lakes on Cape Breton Island. The drive was described as travelling one of the lesser traveled roads. Well, as it turned out this meant, poorly maintained. Because the roads were AWFUL. Pot holes, poorly patched, gravel roads, a severe lack of signage. Needless to say… it was not fun. Nor particularly scenic.
Anyway…we’re driving along when we see this.
It’s a shrine to the appearance of the Virgin Mary in Mexico in the 1500’s. Which is all well and good, but why is it here? On Cape Breton, in the middle of all things Gaelic. It just seems like a strange place for it and there is nothing around that explains this or anything else.
