Off with her head!

20 Oct

Recently I’ve noticed these flowers everywhere. I don’t know what they are, but they’re pretty. I could just be oblivious, but I don’t think they have them back home in Ontario.

For some reason they made me think of Alice in Wonderland. You know the scene where the playing cards are painting the white roses red, so they don’t anger the queen and get their heads chopped off? Here’s the Disney version.

Is it just me or does it not look as though someone was trying to change a white flower to pink in the first image? The top part is pink and the bottom part is white, as though someone took a paint brush to it. So I like to imagine that somewhere, sometime there was a little playing card person going around to all these flowers painting them pink in an attempt to keep his head attached to his body. Obviously he didn’t do a very good job as you can see the white petals in places still. And that’s why we don’t see playing card people around because the queen has gone…”Off with his head!”

Hydrangeas are some of the prettiest shrubs you will find. My wife cuts them when they reach their peak color and takes them inside for decoration. Once she spray painted some and stuck them in our Christmas tree as decoration. It worked okay, but made somewhat of a mess.

they are hydrangeas.. they go through color changes as they age and last a long time.. you can cut them once they start changing color and dry them in a vase without water. doesn’t take long. I have some from last year that are still beautiful.
